Joaquin Phoenix: 'I Have Never Felt Better'

February 9, 2009 by dino

Joaquin Phoenix has admitted that he’s deliberately spoiled his movie heartthrob image.

The Walk the Line star, 34, is quitting movies for music and now sports a scraggy beard and scruffy clothes and hair.

And Phoenix insists he has never felt better.

“People have called me a sex symbol but it’s very much an effort,” he said. “People know me as this kind of thing and in some ways I don’t know that this is my look.

“It’s been important for me to just do something that’s extreme – that really separates me from that public Joaquin Phoenix persona, whatever the f*** that is. Or maybe I’m just lazy.”

Phoenix recently said he is determined to make it as a rapper – even though he admits most of his songs are “crap”.

“I have ten songs and three of them I think are really good,” he said. “The others are pretty crap but we’re working on them. But I don’t really feel this pressure to get an album out because I think things are different now. You don’t necessarily have to release a record. You have a website and you sell, you do a couple singles, you do an EP and then you let it grow.”
