BBC has officially announced the rumors are correct, Matt Lucas is joining the cast of Dr Who for the 10th season!
Lucas will be reprising his role as Nardole from the 2015 Doctor Who Christmas special titled: “The Husbands of River Song.” Nardole will become the second one-off character from a modern Who Christmas special to become a series regular, though it’s still unclear just how many episodes his character will appear in. The other lucky cast member was Catherine Tate’s Donna Noble.
Nardole’s return raises some mind blowing questions as well. Will he still be stuck for life in the robot body of King Hydroflax? Or will Nardole once again have a physical body of his own? Our spies are telling us he will in fact, have a major role outside of the robot body. BBC’s announcement was also extremely vague about whether or not Nardole is joining the TARDIS crew alongside new companion Bill (Pearl Mackie). Somehow we doubt that Nardole is lead villain material, but if he’s not teaming with the Doctor, then it’s possible he’s under the thumb of the series’ next big bad. Either way, it should be fun!
Lucas went on record saying: “I’m chuffed to bits that Nardole is returning to the TARDIS for some more adventures. I loved acting with Peter and I’m excited to work with Pearl.”
Lead writer Steven Moffat added: “Delighted and slightly amazed to be welcoming Matt Lucas back on to the TARDIS – and this time it’s not just for Christmas, he’s sticking around. One of the greatest comedy talents on planet Earth is being unleashed on all of time and space.”
Personally we think Lucas will be a great regular addition to the cast, and can’t wait to start the new season this coming 2017.
Series 10 starts filming next week in Cardiff.
